Course Description

The division aims to cultivate qualities and abilities required in an educator through learning core courses such as junior high school and high school level social studies, geography, history, and civics from various perspectives. The curriculum is constantly being revised so that students will be able to utilize broad knowledge and perspectives in actual educational fields in the future. Students acquire such knowledge and perspectives through much research on history, comparisons, academic texts, and educational situations as well as statistical analysis.

Curriculum

In the first year, the emphasis is placed on introduction to social science and social studies education through seminars and survey courses. Students also participate in training courses at affiliated schools.
In the second year, students continue with the survey courses as well as learn resource research methodology. They also begin their practical teaching training including research on social studies practical teaching materials.
In the third and fourth years, students conduct specialized research on areas of their choice in training seminars for two years. They also spend the fourth year writing their graduation theses. In addition, students participate in practice teach for two years.

Licenses and Certificates

Elementary School Teacher's License: Category 1 can be obtained with the completion of graduation requirements. Also, secondary Junior High School Teacher's License: Category 1 or 2 can be obtained with the completion of additional courses.
